Did you know Pinterest’s New AR Tool for Trying on Virtual Makeup

Pinterest has taken the technological advancement to entirely other levels, with the launch of their new AR ‘Try On’ tool on their application through which you can try the makeup without going to the store.

Last year, Pinterest launched their AR lipstick Try on Pins, with renowned brands like NARS, Neutrogena, Thrive Causemetics, Estee lauder and is now broadening them into eye shadow shoppable Pins including Lancôme, YSL Beaute, Urban Decay, and NYX professional makeup cosmetics.

According to Pinterest, through the lens and eye shadow try on, users can tap into visual search and AR technology to try and buy products, straight from their phone’s camera. You can simply do it by clicking on the camera icon in search and start looking through different makeup products, try on in-stock shades and save or purchase them according to their price range and brands.

The virtual experience is active in around four thousand eye shadow shades; while the lipstick try-on experience is live in around ten thousand shades that too for free. The company will not monetize its AR features and will continue to generate revenue through advertisements.

The eye shadow and lipstick is also integrated with skin tone rangers, so Pinterest will also show you the suggestions as you try and test different shade of the products and will also recommend other related looks. ‘ the users are five times more probably to show purchase intent while trying on enabled pins when they try almost 6 lipstick shades’.

Pinterest is also working with ModiFace, to enhance incorporating elements including digitization parameters that are mapped into ModiFace’s database. Over the years ModiFace’s YouCam Makeup, Sephora’s Virtual Artist, Ulta’s GLAMLab, and now L’Oreal has also offered a live try-on on their website in partnership with Facebook.

Google, although a bit late, has also entered the ace of AR virtual makeup space with the launch of virtual makeup try-on within Google search that too with ModiFace.

Pinterest has been on the significantly growing apps list since the 2020 pandemic lockdown where a huge number of people started doing online shopping. In the near future, Pinterest owners are planning to launch product tagging to creators to tag in-stock products in their Story Pins.

With the arrival of AR-enabled glasses and advanced visual effects options like Apple’s LiDAR technology in the upcoming iPhone’s and Snapchat also working on improving their AR-related product performance into the camera. This is going to be a great step in order to facilitate e-commerce in this era of breakthrough revolution.
