Routine is Innate
It is in our DNA to track our routines, behaviors and day-to-day choices. Whether it’s keeping receipts to track our weekly expenses, writing in a dream journal to track our subconscious or writing down calories to stay healthy. In the digital world, keeping track of your everyday routine is easier than ever with an app for just about anything. Rather than checking your data usage on your phone provider’s website, use My Data Manager to track your data and alert you when you’re getting close to an overcharge. Constantly flying for business or pleasure? Download The Flight Tracker and never worry about remembering flight times, airlines or airport information again.

Why People Track Their Habits
Why is it that people feel the need to track everyday routines and activities? Dr. Gail Saltz, a New York psychiatrist provides insight. She says humans seek out structure and look for predictability as a comfort because you know what’s coming. Living a routine life gives us a sense of familiarity and tracking our habits keeps us stable. A U.K. survey which polled over 1,000 adults between the age of 18-34 found that 8 out of 10 millennials are tracking at least one aspect of their lives.

How to Stay Safe
While tracking on your devices can be a great way to keep up with your routine, apps are also usually maintained through the internet. This puts you at a greater risk of getting hacked, but also a risk of having your information compromised. It’s important to take precautionary measures before downloading and using your tracking apps.

Be sure to avoid public wi-fi networks and turn off the automatic wifi connectivity feature on your devices. This allows you to control which wifi networks you’re joining and reduces your risk of a security breach. You should also create passwords for all of your devices.
